First article about project in Hungary

Dear all,

We had the first article about our project in Hungary.

And below the translation:

International Partnership for Adults with Down Syndrome

It is the Hungarian Down Association who takes part in a two year long international Grundtvig Life Long Learning Program. The present consortium has three partners from the Netherlands, from Slovakia and from Hungary. The goal of the project is to help people with Down Syndrome in the field of autonomous way of living and job creation. The plan is to learn and use those successful practices from the Netherlands.

Four days in the home of the huge windmills, the colorful tulips and the rapping clogs. Amsterdam became the organizer for the kick-off meeting of the present project in order to start the common work with the aim of developing the target group’s living standard. The plan of the main partner (the Netherlands) is to spread the message for more and more parents in East Europe. Parents should believe their adult children have chances for independent living beside the family ties. They are capable of living autonomous and apply for different jobs.

Down Association has already taken part in different international project ideas in order to adapt the good practices and develop the integration of disabled people in Hungary” – said Károly Kisari, the director of the association. “Let me emphasize a very important difference between the present project and the previous ones. It was the first time to travel and experience new ideas in a foreign country together with the beneficiaries. We have spent these four days in Amsterdam with youngsters with DS and their parents or siblings from Hungary and Slovakia. This was a perfect forum for every participant to share his or her direct opinions. I have known it for 13 years the fact what we are doing and our mission is absolutely necessary and indispensable in our country. This meeting, together with the members from the target group gave me a very positive feedback. I became sure this agreement with the partners will help us a lot to get closer to our final goal: these people should have more places for independent living, and many of them should find workplace in the open workforce market to meet real inspiration for their future” – added Károly Kisari.
