Grundtvig Seminar - October 13th 2013 Amsterdam & 1st Lustrum Downkids International

Third day of the (plenary part) of the seminar of Downkids International

Down to Earth - Youngsters and their future

 Sunday - October 13th, 2013

The day started at 9am with a management meeting for the three partner countries (Slovakia, Hungary and The Netherlands). The participating organisations discussed how the formulated goals can be accomplished and what they need in terms of knowledge and experience. In addition, practical matters have been discussed and the progress of the program until that moment has been evaluated.

After that, the program for the day has started. Again, the youngsters and the adults had their own separate schedules. The youngsters visited the Eye-museum, with special focus on the ‘interactive’ elements within the museum. There were no language barriers and the youngsters could choose their own activities.

The parents and professionals watched a movie about job creation and independent living, after which a group discussion took place about the relation of these topics to each participant’s own situations.

After lunch an excursion had been organised. And although the weather didn’t really help, the atmosphere was great and everybody had a good time.

The day was concluded with a reception on the occasion of the first lustrum of Downkids International, which was celebrated together with the partner countries and guests. During the reception, a movie has been showed that has been made of the creative project in which the Down youngsters participated a day earlier. In this way, the parents could see how the youngsters worked on painting and decorating their boxes, which contain their dreams, wishes and often a reference to their individual talents.

It’s been a very positive day !
