Grundtvig Seminar - October 12th 2013 Amsterdam

First day of the (plenary part) of the seminar of Downkids International

Down to Earth - Youngsters and their future

Participants: parents, professionals and Down youngsters.

Saturday - October 12th, 2013

The day started with an introduction of the organisations from the partner countries; Hungary, Slovakia and the Netherlands. Each participants current activities and organisational structure have been discussed.

The parents and professionals and the Down youngsters each had their own schedule for the day. The youngsters, under supervision of Erwin Wieringa, released their creativity and crafted a box containing their dreams, hopes and expectations in search of the answer on the question: Who Am I ? This activity has been filmed by Pauline Senn and the result will be shown during the reception on Sunday.

The parents and professionals had the following program:

11:00 - 12:30              Workshop

14:00 - 15:00              Presentation by Ben Lijten about “Independent living”

15:00 - 16:00              Presentation of the boxes made by the youngsters

16:00 - 17:00              Presentation by Erwin Wieringa about “Asset-based Community Development” (ABCD)

It’s been a busy and instructive day for everyone. Also the translaters worked very hard, for which we are very grateful. There was good coöperation between the participants and despite the busy schedule, there was enough time to meet, laugh and enjoy being together.

The program for the evening is dedicated to relaxation; dining and dancing together.
